Book Blurb Friday #23: The Loving House

TGIBBF!

Before I jump into Book Blurb Friday, I'd like to offer up a couple of links.

First, there is a blog contest you ought to check out. Karen at Write Now is celebrating 300 followers! Visit her blog by clicking HERE and sign up to win. There is a book and possibly chocolate involved. How can you go wrong?  A book. And CHOCOLATE.

Second, several of you emailed me asking for a link to the article about cats on Prozac. Click HERE to read it. Sorry I didn't have a direct link set up before. My brain was focused on the fact that I amused myself by writing about such a thing; it never occurred to me that you might actually want to read the article itself. Oops.

And now on to this week's Book Blurb Friday, where 150 words must sell your story.

If you are new to this blog, please click HERE or click the tab under the blog header for details of the Book Blurb Friday meme.  This is the shortened, abridged version:

Write a book jacket blurb (150 words or less) so enticing that potential readers would feel compelled to buy the book.

Below is this week's "book cover," generously offered for our creative blurbs by Kathy Matthews.  My book blurb follows:

The Loving House

The Loving House is a bed and breakfast in the Outer Banks with a reputation for romance. When its owner, Rowena Loving, mentions a sale, Amy Peerham is ready to buy the old B&B: her parents met and married there.

David Fields is a carpenter with a passion for restoring old Victorian houses, and he’s been dreaming of The Loving House since he was a kid.  His parents met there, and he’s prepared to outbid anyone.

When a hurricane threatens, Rowena sets a task for the adversaries:  Move into the B&B as caretakers for the duration of the storm, after which a new owner will be named.

David and Amy set aside their rivalry to face the storm and protect the property. And if Rowena has her way, The Loving House will not only survive the hurricane, it will live up to its reputation for romance.    (146 words)

Kathy's photo brought to my mind the B&B my husband and I stayed at last year in Asheville, NC.  I loved the whole feel of the place. It really was romantic!

Please put your name and link in Mr. Linky, below, if you are participating in Book Blurb Friday. If you have no blurb to share, please do not install a link. It will be treated as spam and removed. Thanks.

Please scroll past the Linky widget to see our "book cover" for next week.

Here is our "book cover" for next week's Book Blurb Friday #24, provided by Sioux Roslawski. Thanks, Sioux!

Great photo to get our creativity flowing! If you have a photograph you think would make a great book cover, please send it to me at writinginthebuff@hotmail.com.

See you in a few days for micofiction stories. Enjoy your weekend!

Prozac Kitty

Does anyone else out there write for Suite 101?  I’m curious, because with regard to writing nonfiction articles for this content site I’ve managed to amuse myself. Oh, it is not that my writing is satirical or worthy of a funny-bone giggle. The truth is, I’ve only written one article so far. About. . .

Prozac Kitty

Cats on Prozac.

Sadly, I’m not making this up.

With Suite 101 I have the opportunity to write about any topic—any topic, buttercup—and what do I choose?

Cats.

On Prozac.

I know, I know. From the back of which dark closet did I pull that one? Believe it or not, my cat Tabby, that beauty pictured above, is indeed a kitty on Prozac. The vet prescribed the antidepressant for her due to stress and anxiety created by Luna, rescued kitten/ninja extraordinaire and bona fide domestic terrorist.

Rrrowrr. . .

It wasn’t my expectation to write a nonfiction article about stressed out cats. And that is why I’m amused.  This whole exercise reminded me that when it comes to writing, I can still surprise myself when the process takes me somewhere I didn’t expect to go, which, thank goodness, is blissfully often.

I may not have chosen the most newsworthy item about which to write. But the love I have for simply following my muse, even when it sends me down a crazy path, is the reason I just can’t stop writing. Who knows where it will lead me next?

What compels you to keep writing or doing something else you’re crazy about? When was the last time your muse surprised you?

See you back here for Book Blurb Friday!
