American Idol - One Glambert's Lament

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know. I’m late to the party, but I had to wait for the shock to wear off. How could Adam Lambert lose American Idol? The kid is a chameleon, able to sing anything with ease. Also, he reminds me of Sam Harris (I’m dating myself here) from the Star Search show in the early 80s. Adam does the same slide-up-the-scale trick that Sam did.

Curious as to how such a standout entertainer could lose, I surfed the net. There was a lot of speculation, and it seemed to be all from other Glamberts. (Note: A Glambert is an Adam Lambert fan.) Kris Allen fans were silent, at least at the sites I visited. However, the four most prevalent theories I found regarding Adam’s loss were as follows:

1. Americans are idiots. (Hey, didn’t Green Day already sing about that?)
2. Christians turned AI into a religious competition.
3. Danny Gokey’s votes went to Kris due to their similar styles.
4. Adam was too flamboyant and had questionable sexual preferences. (Really? There was a question?)

First, I don’t think Americans are idiots, even the ones whose opinions differ from mine. (Okay, okay, maybe a few.) Second, I hope that my fellow Christians are capable of voting for a musical preference and not a religious one. Third, for Kris Allen’s sake, I hope all of his votes were based on his talent and not his position as fall-back. And last, the idea that a huge talent like Adam Lambert was voted down because he might be gay or bi-sexual is troubling. Who cares what his preferences are, and why is it anyone’s business? This is a singing competition, and man, can he belt out a song.

Aside from all of that, he’s adorable, even with the hedgehog hair and guyliner. The only other man I know of who looks that good in black liner is Johnny Depp, so Adam is in pretty good company.

For all of you Kris Allen lovers out there I say, “Congratulations!” and “What were you thinking?” To my fellow Glamberts I say, “The best is yet to come!” and “Am I the only one who thinks Adam looks like a space age Elvis?”

Til next time,
Lisa
