This was a long week with Papa having surgery. I'm happy to report that he is home and recuperating from, as he puts it, "This traumatic assault on my person." I'd like to say he's teasing, but he's Dr. Super-Smarty Pants and really talks like that. At 87-years-old he's got more than a few things wrong, but as he also likes to say, "They can oil me up and replace all the parts they want, but they're still working with a 1923 chassis!" (In addition to being Dr. Super-Smarty Pants, he's also Dr. Funny Man, so time spent with Papa is never dull.) We're so happy to have him home! Thanks to all of you for your thoughts and prayers. We're grateful.

Final Blackout
When Hank Dunbar awakens in an alley after his latest bender, he expects his world to be altered. He figures his long suffering wife will offer the silent treatment, and his business partner will beg him to enter rehab. Hank is right about one thing.
His world has changed. . .
Hank emerges from the alley, unprepared for vast silence. The streets are devoid of traffic, the sidewalks empty of pedestrians. Stores and restaurants stand empty; churches and homes, deserted. There are no dogs barking, squirrels chattering, or birdsong.
There is only the wind. . .
Hank’s confusion becomes fear as he searches in vain for signs of life. He struggles to remember his last drunken hours, praying for clues to help him piece together the events that dropped him in this empty universe. He is desperate for answers, desperate to know details of his final blackout. . . (150 words)
Poor Hank! He should have known better than to down that last shot of tequila. It must have been a doozy. Of course, you know he'll figure out the mystery and find redemption before you reach "The End." My stories always have a happy ending. (Well, except for my horror stories, but that's another genre.) I'm looking forward to reading your blurbs!

Great blurb. What happened? Will he find anyone to share his fate? What is his fate? So many questions need answering, I have to read it.
I tried several times to comment earlier but wasn't able to - and now the Linky thing has disappeared ... but I did enjoy your blurb - reminded me of the beginning of 'The Day of the Triffids' and loved the photo which I could have taken in several directions.
....but!! That 1923 chassis can be souped up with new parts and purr like a kitten and win a race any ol' day!! Hope he continues to recover.
Now your blurb. Seems there is a lot of pieces strewn about like a jigsaw puzzle. Soon, with 'your happy ending'...all will fit nicely and there'll be a beautiful picture at the end.

Great news on Papa. What a blessing both ways that he lives with you guys.
I love your book beginning. If everybody else is gone but there are no bodies, I can't figure it out. According to theories, if it was Jesus coming back, there would be others around who didn't to to heaven. Was it the aliens who came down for dinner and just missed him by accident? If that is so, maybe he'll run into a pretty lady who was also under the influence when the huge event occurred. One more reason to drink, I suppose, if Aliens consider drunks bad food, lol.

I could feel a chill from the moment I started reading this one. Despite your disclaimer after the blurb, I think this would make a great horror story. Regardless of the genre, I want to know what happens.

Excellent blurb, Lia...rife with tension! I love your vivid descripton of the sinister silence that surrounds your unlucky protagonist...it tells us there is much more ahead for him to face!
